God’s Presence

You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

(Psalm 16:11)

There’s nothing better than the presence of God!  He is not a God that is far off, but he desires to be close to people.  He is holy and also larger than anything we can imagine.  Humans are also rebellious toward God.  This tension has created a uncrossable boundary so that all people stand in silence before God’s righteous justice.  Because people have rebelled against this holy God, he must punish this rebellion in order to be just.  This is where Jesus Christ enters the story and gloriously acts as the mediator and sacrifice between God and man.  Because he died on the cross for sins, he paid the penalty of that God’s justice demanded.  As people put their faith and trust in this sacrifice, God sees them as in the right before his holiness because he sees them through Christ.  This allows God’s presence to become a powerful force within the life of every believer.  He gives his very presence to each person who he sees holy through Christ–the Holy Spirit.

So God has made himself near and within through Christ’s gracious act on the cross.  And so, God’s presence becomes a constant when life throws curve balls at us.  It becomes a transforming influence making us desire to honor him with everything we say and do.  His presence gives us guidance and fullness.  His presence becomes something we can rely on when we feel weak, confused, sorrowful, or disappointed.  He will never leave us or forsake us.  And in the end, when it is all said and done in heaven, his presence will be made more beautiful and vivid than we can ever imagine!

Here is a study on the Presence of God that I pray will be helpful.
