The GIANTS in life

Tree trunkSometimes it feels like life can be full of GIANTS that seem too big to handle.  These giants can take many forms; financial pressures, relational difficulties, health concerns, worries, lonliness, death of a loved one… the list seems like it could go on and on.  This past month, I had a host of giants that were a part of my life; physical pain, death of loved ones, dissappointment, financial pressures…whew!  Where do we really go when the giants seem too big?  Do we rely on our intellect to figure them out?  Or do we just turn to distractions to delay coping with the stress?

This is where God must come in.  He is the one who understands our giants and promises to be with us through them.  He gives us power to face our difficulties.  His words in the Bible help calm us and give us direction in the midst of hard circumstances.  Sometimes it seems so easy to say these things because I have been a believer for such a long time, but the more giants that come my way, the more I realize I need to be reminded that God is with me!  It is such a simple, yet powerful truth that I need to remind myself of over and over again.

Psalm 46:1 says,  “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”  This means that when we are troubled with the many giants in our lives, we can come to God.  He will be like a refuge against our enemies.  He will be our strenth when we are tired and weary.  He promises to be very present with us when we are troubled.  His presence is with us in power to sustain and guide!
