Studying the Bible can be extremely rewarding. Digging into the Scriptures brings about wisdom, truth, grace, and peace. When you start to understand and apply the truths you learn for yourself from your Bible study, it is very powerful. This is because the Spirit of God gives us light into understanding and into how we can do what we have learned. God uses his Word as the primary means of transforming us into people who continue to glorify him in all we do! This is why it is extremely important to have a good plan and process through which we can stay motivated to study.
2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” This is where Paul is instructing Timothy, that as he leads, it is extremely important that he correctly handles the Scriptures. This is a principle for all of us who are seeking after God, we present ourselves to him as workers, unashamed and handling the Bible well. One way to continue to apply this principle is by digging into the truth in Bible study. A great desire of mine is that God would use me to help people handle the Word of God correctly and effectively. To equip people to be master swordsmen and women! This is why I have posted a lot of resources to help study the Bible.
Today I want to focus on a resource that I made for myself to help me write out what I am learning from my Bible study. I put the text on the left and write my observations and my questions on the right. I write out cross references and word studies. I think about the context and the historical background. I try to summarize my research into statements that summarize the main point of the passage. Then I think about how it applies to life today and to my own life. In this resource, there are blanks to write in your research. It is a simple worksheet, but it has helped me stay organized and motivated…and so I hope it helps you too!
